Pitcher Dutch Lawrence might be the surprise story of the CCAL for the league champion Turlock Bulldogs. The senior leads the team in a number of pitching categories in just his first season in the regular pitching rotation. Caden Reeve doesn’t want his high school career to end without a trip to the 2025 Sac-Joaquin Section baseball playoffs. The senior and his Enochs team continued their playoff push Monday with their backs against the wall in a must-win home game against Gregori to open a three-game Central California Athletic League series. On offense, he went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in a run.

One big inning was all it took for the Beyer softball team to seal the biggest win in recent school history. While Beyer (19-6, 11-1 WAC) has made appearances in the playoffs in the past, the Patriots’ last league title was in 1996, according to 13-year head coach Mike Young. Friday, Beyer had the chance to secure at least a share of the Western Athletic Conference title and avenge their only league loss earlier this season against league newcomer Livingston (16-7, 10-2).

Donnie Donaldson remembers the story of the Modesto Junior College softball team with eight and a half players. As the story goes, nine players regularly showed up to practices but just eight could play games during the week. One player could play games only on weekends because of work obligations. That was in 2019 and the Pirates decided not to field a team, saving a year of eligibility for those who wanted to play in the future.
