Brooks, from nearby Alexandria, Va., the five-star incoming freshman for North Carolina, scored 28 points, two 3-pointers, pulled down 10 rebounds, and got two steals in the Jordan Brand Classic at CareFirst Arena. Her Team Air squad lost 126–108 to Team Flight, but she couldn’t have done much more. UConn recruit Kelis Fisher added 23 points for Team Air.

The first-year Los Angeles Sparks coach couldn’t lure Ustby to Utah, where she coached for nine full seasons, when Ustby was a high school star in Minnesota and decided to play at North Carolina. “She ended up telling us no, but I’ve always just been a big fan, and got to know her family really well,” Roberts said during a Zoom press conference on Thursday.
