Three Fires Council and councils across the nation will officially adopt the name Scouting America. In May of 2024, the Boy Scouts of America organization announced an expected name change to take place on Feb. 8, 2025, Scouting’s anniversary. This marks the beginning of a new era of Scouting with Scouting America. While the name of the organization is changing, the Scout oath and law, the program, values instilled in youth, and dedication to safety will remain the same.

Three Fires Council, Scouting America is scheduled to host its annual Merit Badge University at York High School in Elmhurst on Saturday, Feb. 22. Merit Badge University is the largest merit badge event in the nation, with more than 1,200 Scouts in attendance. Merit Badge University not only boasts large attendance numbers, but it also brings in youth from all over the country.

Big Timber Pumpkin Fest is hard at work preparing for its fifth “Barrels & Bones & Brews” event, formerly known as “Barrels & Bones.” This event takes place from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the spacious Camp Big Timber in Elgin. It will feature a private bourbon tasting, barbecue, and samples of local brews from breweries and meaderies around the area. “Barrels & Bones & Brews” has been an autumn staple in the Elgin area as it the premier bourbon tasting event in Northern Illinois.

Wentzell has been selected for the role of Scout Executive.
