Tasmania is experiencing a shortage of the most popular antibiotic treatment for children with whooping cough (pertussis) as case numbers rise. Pharmacy Guild Australia Tasmania branch president, Joe O'Malley, says the shortage is being driven by an "unseasonal or unexpected increase in demand" across Australia.

Plans for a new ferry terminal on the River Derwent at Lords Beach, Sandy Bay, were approved at last night's Hobart City Council meeting. Council's transport spokesperson Ryan Posselt explains why the site was selected over one at Wrest Point, and whether parking will be an issue for commuters. "Working with Federal Group, we were unable to secure a deal and that has led to us returning to Lords Beach, which is just next door, south of the casino," Mr Posselt tells ABC Radio Hobart's Jo Spargo.

Mood disorders are a symptom of perimenopause which take some women by surprise, according to Hobart GP Dr Hannah Chapman. Tasmanians have until close of business tomorrow to contribute to a review of kunanyi/Mount Wellington by completing an online survey or making a written submission. The survey asks how often and why people visit the mountain and what their experience is like while there. Chair of the Confederation of Greater Hobart Business Edwin Johnstone says the group's petition against a bicycle lane trial on Collins Street in Hobart has more than 1000 signatures, which is enough to force an elector poll on the issue. However, he tells Jo Spargo on ABC Hobart Breakfast that he hopes it "doesn't come to that and the Council comes to their senses and they listen to what the majority of Hobart want and what the majority of Hobart businesses want". "We're not anti-bike lanes.
