    March 20, 2024 We are rushing heedlessly into a world in which thinking men become ever more like insects. “A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

    In A Long View on Artificial Intelligence, my friend Rachel Lomasky makes the points that I have long tried to make, far better than I have done. She notes that the innovation and efficiency gained from AI will be like nothing we have ever seen. I agree with her completely. Even Alan Turing, a genius by all accounts, had no concept of the wealth of human benefits AI would give. As Lomasky, Asheeh Agarwal, Vinay Agrawal, and I all agree, AI will create innovation and abundance.
