    WASHINGTON — On a recent afternoon the lunch rush was in full swing as Hill staffers stood in line in one of the Capitol’s many dining spots. From Dunkin’ to Subway to a beloved frozen yogurt stand, the options available can fulfill any craving. As most Americans can agree, everyone needs to eat. But the overwhelming majority of Americans — nearly 80% — said that the United States is more divided than ever before, according to a recent Gallup study. The makeup of the 119th Congress is no different.

    Ald. Jonathan Nieuwsma (4th) told residents at a ward meeting Wednesday night that the city plan to take their concerns about the Albany Care nursing home to the state officials who regulate the facility. Albany Care, at 901 Maple Ave., is one of 19 Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Facilities across the sate. Nieuwsma said the facility cut its capacity by 40% in response to complaints in 2020 but that arrests at and around the facility have continued in the years since.

    Last year the City of Evanston resolved longstanding complaints about a warehouse in the 9th Ward by acquiring title to the property for nonpayment of taxes. Residents of the area had complained for years about fires being started by a business at the site that apparently collected used wooden pallets and that eventually was labeled a nuisance by the city.

    Bright murals and a neon sign reading “hand-cut fries” adorn the wall of Devil Dawgs, a recent addition to downtown Evanston. Its ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday marks the restaurant’s new chapter in Evanston. The chilly weather and rain did not stop Evanston residents and Northwestern students alike from attending the event. Attendees waited in line to receive free hats and T-shirts with the Devil Dawgs logo, and free hot dogs complete with relish, mustard, pickles, and tomatoes.
