In just a few short days, the Jewish calendar brings us Tu B’Shevat, the birthday of the trees. Tu B’Shevat is a holiday that calls us to reflect on growth, renewal, and our relationship with the natural world. For those of us in South Jersey, February often feels far from spring’s promise of blooming flowers and lush landscapes. As I write this, I can see remnants of snow on the ground and can hear blustery winds outside of my office window.

This has been a heavy couple of weeks for all of us—globally, nationally, locally, and personally. We all stand stronger when we lift each other up, and on behalf of Jewish Federation and the entire Jewish community, we are here to help. Once we overcome our grief, fear, anger, and the situational paralysis which many of us feel, we must ask: What can I do as an individual? What can WE do as a community? You and I are not over in Israel fighting for our country and endangering our lives.
