Covered California is part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that promises low or no-cost insurance to millions across the country. Open enrollment is a time when Californians can sign up for, renew or shop for a new health insurance plan. Since it started in 2014, early 6 million have taken advantage of it and the goal is to reach more.

Kendra Ramsey is the executive director of the California Bike Coalition, or CalBike, and said the organization has come a long way since its inception 30 years ago. The nonprofit has steered innovation when it comes to pedestrian and bike safety, launching the Safe Routes to School program.
