1 INTRODUCTION Cancer is one of the significant illnesses worldwide, and breast cancer has overtaken lung cancer as the most often diagnosed disease in women.[1] Chemotherapy is still one of the best strategies for cancer treatment; however, as a result of the use of high doses of anticancer drugs, the tumor sensitivity to oncological therapeutics decreases while broad multidrug resistance (MDR) cancer phenotypes are more often detected.

We describe the design and catalytic activity of enzymatic nanoreactors based on copper oxide nanoparticles surface-functionalized with laccase (CuO-Lac) from Coriolopsis gallica. Transmission electron micrographs show complete laccase coverage on the nanoparticle surfaces. In addition, the catalytic rate (kcat) of the immobilized laccase is two-fold higher at an optimized pH, when compared with free laccase, while the affinity constant (KM) is not significantly affected.

Highly stable and reusable magnetic crosslinked enzyme aggregates (m-CLEAS) of laccase are synthesized with simultaneous improved enzymatic activity. Magnetic copper ferrite nanoparticles (CFNPs) were synthesized by solvothermal procedure with an average size of ~8 nm. The nanometric m-CLEAS were formed by co-aggregation of enzyme with CFNPs and crosslinked using glutaraldehyde.
