Scotland’s biotechnology sector has launched the country’s first open-access 300-litre fermenter, designed to help early-stage companies scale up the production of bio-based products. Installed at FlexBIO – the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre’s (IBioIC) scale-up facility at Heriot-Watt University – the new equipment was funded by an £847,000 grant from Scottish Enterprise.
