1. IntroductionCurrent anti-inflammatory pharmacological therapies include small molecules and biotechnological drugs; however, inflammatory diseases, including inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), remain incurable. Thus, novel therapies for such recurrent and life-threatening conditions are urgently needed. Glucocorticoids (GCs) are endogenous hormones produced and released by the adrenal cortex.
