Twisp convenes opioid roundtable after 3 fatal overdoses in townThe Methow Valley has a drug problem. The community known for its Nordic skiing, its artists and a hot second-home market is not immune to the fatal opioid epidemic that has swept the state and the nation. At least three people in the Twisp area have died from opioid overdoses since December 2024. In a recent case, a Twisp man died in a bedroom at his mother’s home on March 21.

Over its 10-year history in downtown Winthrop, Copper Glance has always been about “a well-crafted drink and an upscale vibe,” as the original owners put it in 2015. New owners Scott Bandy and Levi Knox intend to continue that tradition while also broadening the bar’s appeal. They open Copper Glance at 134-A Riverside Ave. on Wednesday (May 7). Craft-cocktail lovers can still get their fix, as Scott’s son Maxx Bandy is returning as bar manager.

This was the message Gardner Academy founders Peter and Shannon Huffman Polson delivered at a second informational meeting about the new school, Wednesday (April 23) at Winthrop Library.
