The digital version of CDN launched on January 24, 2022, followed by the release of its first weekly print edition on March 2, 2022. This newspaper is part of Cascadia Newspapers LLC, which is entirely owned and supported by David Syre, a fourth-generation resident of Whatcom County. We provide news updates throughout the day on our website, cascadiadaily.com, every day of the week. Our weekly print edition is available at various newsstands and retail outlets, sent by mail to subscribers, and accessible as a print-replica e-edition every Wednesday morning. Skeletal human remains were discovered on Interstate 5 near Lakeway Drive on Tuesday. Washington State Patrol is in the midst of investigating the remains. Commenters on social media described seeing first responders gathering in the vegetated margin next to the interstate on Tuesday afternoon. WSP District 7 Public Information Officer Kelsey Harding confirmed by email on June 19 that WSP had responded to a report of the discovery of skeletal remains at 12:30 p.m. on June 17.

One person was stabbed in the back late Tuesday morning during a fight in downtown Bellingham, according to police. Bellingham Police Department officers responded to an assault around 11:36 a.m. in the 600 block of Dupont St., said Claudia Murphy, a patrol lieutenant in an emailed statement. Officers found a 39-year-old male on the ground with two stab wounds to his back. The victim was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Hospital with serious injuries. He’s expected to recover.

The public will have the opportunity once again to weigh in on whether the Port of Bellingham Board of Commissioners should expand its membership from three to five members. During the Tuesday, June 17 regular meeting, Commissioner Michael Shepard instructed staff to prepare a discussion on expansion in July. Commissioner Ken Bell added that he wanted to see a resolution prepared for the meeting that commissioners could then vote on to trigger the process for an expansion election.
