Another quiet, beautiful day is ahead for the middle of the week as a ridge of high pressure keeps things stable. Temperatures will be a bit milder Wednesday as highs make it into the low to mid-60s by the afternoon. It’s going to be breezy at times, but not much compared to the wind we’ve felt the last couple days. The ridge moves east and a trough of low pressure will begin to affect the region Thursday.

Clouds cleared out quickly this morning and we got a nice dose of sunshine this Tuesday. Winds were gusty, occasionally pushing 40mph but quieted down in the evening. Here’s a look at the climate stats for Tuesday, April 15th.

A strong, northwest wind will continue Tuesday, although it won’t be as strong as Monday’s winds. Clouds may linger early in the day, but we can look forward to more sunshine late Tuesday morning through the afternoon along with seasonably mild high temperatures. Winds shift early Wednesday, helping to boost temperatures back into the lower 60s Wednesday for a comfortably mild, quiet day.

The week is off to a cool and windy start with gusts Monday afternoon nearing 45 to 50mph in some parts of southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa. A wave of low pressure is bringing increasing clouds Monday evening and scattered showers to parts of southern Minnesota and north Iowa. While temperatures are a bit below average to start the week, they’ll be nudging upward into the lower 60s later this week. Clouds will linger Tuesday morning but will clear out nicely for a brighter Tuesday afternoon.

We’ll wrap up the week with clouds holding tight much of Friday. However, there will be a gradual decrease in cloud cover through Friday afternoon, so it will at least be a bit brighter toward the end of daylight hours. Temperatures will be a bit milder Friday with highs in the mid-50s. This weekend will be even warmer as a south wind bumps highs into the 60s both Saturday and Sunday. Occasional showers are possible Sunday but it’s not going to rain the entire day.

Despite the clouds around Thursday, temperatures have been in the low to mid-50s across southern Minnesota and north Iowa. Clouds will be stubborn to depart Friday, while temperatures will make it back to the mid-50s to around 60 degrees across the area. Look for a nice, quiet end to the week with a light wind and comfortably cool conditions. Clouds will start to break through the afternoon with a nice taste of sunshine late Friday.

A weak wave of low pressure has been affecting parts of the upper Midwest through Wednesday, but you’d hardly know it Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures have been comfortably mild, running slightly above average, and that overall trend continues through this weekend. However, Thursday will be a touch cooler than it was Wednesday. Highs will drop back to the upper 40s and lower 50s as we’ll be on the cooler side of a weak storm system.

While the end of this week remains cool, it’s at least comfortably cool with temperatures not too far off the mark for early April. Highs will remain in the mid to upper 40s this weekend, a bit warmer in north Iowa, and much cooler air moves in early next week. However, that push of colder air won’t last long. Highs remain in the 30s Monday, then climb back to the mid-40s Tuesday, warming up even more by Wednesday of next week.
