Sherene Williamson’s struggle to afford childcare as a single parent led her to open an in-home daycare in Orange. She has worked with families who earn too much to qualify for childcare subsidies but not enough to afford the typical hourly rates for care.

After Katie and Justin Silpe welcomed their second child, Katie returned to work while Justin took over responsibility for feeding their baby, using thawed breast milk from a supply that Katie had frozen. But time and again, their daughter refused to drink it. The Silpes were not the only parents whose babies rejected breast milk that had been frozen — likely due to changes in taste and smell.

New Jersey has a goal of 330,000 zero-emission vehicles registered by the end of 2025. “With 220,000 EVs on the road today … [that] would require a 50% jump which sounds like a lot. You never really want to say never, but it is going to be challenging to hit that goal,” said Nick Nigro, founder of Atlas Public Policy research firm. To reach the goal, the state needs to create more robust incentives, said Pam Frank, CEO of ChargEVC.

She said Matthew had muscular dystrophy and had died while being transported on a school bus. “We’re here because we tragically lost our son Matthew on February 10th, 2023,” she told the committee.

Last fall, the state announced the Bringing Veterans Home initiative to end veteran homelessness within two years, with more than $30 million in state and federal money to fund services and interventions. “I think this is finally the state putting its money where its mouth is.
