    CHULA VISTA – Retirement Housing Foundation and Community Congregational Development have started construction of a $40 million Chula Vista affordable apartment project for low-income tenants 55 and older. The seven-story Congregational Place at 305 E St. will have 56 one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments. Half of the apartments will be earmarked for low-income tenants with mobility impairments. An additional 2% of the apartments will be set aside for those with hearing or visual impairments.

    SAN DIEGO COUNTY – The number of homes up for sale jumped dramatically in May, reaching the highest level since 2020, according to an online residential real estate marketer. “It’s a jump, but going back over the years, we generally see inventory start to ramp up in May through the summer months,” said Joshua Ohl, senior director of market analytics at CoStar Group San Diego. “People are figuring out a way to afford these properties.

    LA JOLLA – La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla is wrapping up construction of a more than $1 million spa that will be the only resort spa in La Jolla village. “There’s really nothing like that in the village,” said Troy Longwith, general manager of La Valencia. “We felt there was an opportunity to give our hotel guests an amenity that they were asking about,” said Longwith, adding that the spa would be open to the public as well. “We’ll have same-day appointments,” Longwith said.

    SAN DIEGO – J Street, a real estate developer that focuses on hospitality projects, is planning $250 million in renovations to transform downtown Tower 180 from an office tower to dual Hyatt hotels. The 25-story office tower at 180 Broadway and a three-story adjacent annex will have a 371-room Hyatt Place hotel and a 189-room Hyatt House hotel. “This is not a traditional hotel renovation,” said Saj Hansji, founder and CEO of J Street.
