SAN DIEGO – The U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics NASSCO a $199 million firm-fixed-price contract action for maintenance, modernization and repair of the amphibious assault ship USS America. This deal includes options which, if exercised, would bring its cumulative value to $209.2 million. The work, called a fiscal 2026 Docking Selected Restricted Availability, will be performed in San Diego and is expected to be completed by July 2027.

RANCHO SANTA FE – A Rancho Santa Fe house designed for the horse-riding set – so fancy that it has a barn with three chandeliers and a caretaker’s apartment on the second floor -- was sold for $17.5 million in May, the highest price paid for a San Diego County home so far this year. “It’s a crazy barn, I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Linda Sansone of Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty, who was the listing agent for the sale.

SAN DIEGO – Architect/developer Jeff Svitak has finished building a North Park apartment building, Fora, with 34 apartments, and is wrapping up construction of a much larger apartment building in Bankers Hill, Kaya, with 78 apartments. Kaya takes its name partly from a Bob Marley record album of the same name that appealed to Svitak. “I like that laid back, sort of relaxed lifestyle, just enjoying the day type of feeling,” Svitak said.
