93 $32 Drink by: 2025-2032 Shows the virtues of being able to source quality Chardonnay from Pemberton in a hot year. This one has emerged to be a really attractive wine. Aromas of peach and biscuit crumble with a little lemon curd lift. The palate is seamlessly structured with a creamy stone richness complemented by a fine persistent acidity. There’s a slight savoury element here adding further complex appeal. Variety: White Wine, Chardonnay Categories: Drinks, Australian Wines

96 $58 Drink by: 2025-2037 An impressive wine that captures much of what this early generous vintage was all about. Released after a little extra time in the cellar, which has allowed everything to knit together beautifully to reveal its best characters. It’s classically Cabernet with that combination of chocolatey  blackcurrant, bay leaf and black olive cut with a fine thread of oyster shell minerality. About 50% new French oak was used and it has worked seamlessly into the palate.

97 $130 Drink by: 2025-2045 A wine that is always on the list of wines to watch in any vintage. The vines were planted on this vineyard in 1973. It was whole bunch and whole berry fermented, contributing to the highly perfumed and deeply concentrated palate. It was matured in large format oak to allow the natural vibrancy of the fruit to emerge without the intrusion of too much oak. Love this wine. 92 $34.99 Drink by: 2025-2034 In some ways a throwback to a different era with its use of 100% American oak. But it seems to work well. The fruit is rich and dark with a slightly liqueur cherry flavour complemented by the sweet oak flavours. It’s soft and plush with plenty of vanilla essence and spicy characters evident. It comes from Heathcote, so the distinctive ironstone minerality complements the lush fruit rather well. Variety: Other, Specialty Categories: Australian Wines, Drinks

95 $90 Drink by: 2025-2033 This is the top Chardonnay from Rosenthal. It’s been sourced from Mount Barker and displays the typical power and complexity of previous vintages albeit on a slightly lighter frame. Moves into a distinctive savoury zone with creamy stone fruit and brioche character emerging. The oak integration is superb, allowing the fruit to fully express itself. The early pick to avoid the heat has resulted in a wine of elegance and charm.
