    ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO) — Parents at Hononegah High School and transgender rights groups gathered at a school board meeting to make their voices heard after one student’s mother said her daughter felt uncomfortable when two transgender students were changing in the girls’ locker room. Nearly 100 advocates on both sides of the debate were at the meeting. Currently, the high school’s policy allows students to change in the locker room that they identify with.

    BELVIDERE — The Rockford Ice Hogs try to hold an outdoor practice once a year, and Tuesday, despite the frigid temperatures, was the night. The Ice Hogs hold the tradition to connect with the fans on a deeper level. “Coming to Rockford to see the support that they bring every night and especially here tonight, because it’s so cold, it’s awesome to see,” Ice Hogs defenseman Cavan Fitzgerald said.

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Wayne’s Feed Store has sat untouched at 3435 Auburn Street for 61 years, and manager Fred Hoople believes now is the time for a change. Hoople and his team have done small improvement projects on their own over the years, but they have never asked for city money. The city of Rockford launched its TIF Commercial & Industrial Rehabilitation Program Monday, and Hoople is planning to apply.

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A local Red Cross volunteer is heading to Los Angeles to help those in need amid wildfires that have ravaged the county. She is helping the Red Cross provide thousands of people who need food, water and a place to sleep. “We’re at the beginning of the disaster where first responders are still doing response and rescue,” said Red Cross Volunteer and Supervisor Vicky Brown. “At the beginning of disasters, lots of times there’s some chaos.
