Get ready for a hopping good Easter with Binky, the giant Easter egg bunny, at Katikati Bird Gardens. Katikati Bird Gardens is putting on its 21st annual great Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday. Binky, known for his oversized ears and cheeky grin, will be scampering around the 4ha gardens spreading joy and excitement for children. The bunny will be available for photos too.

Thousands came to celebrate all the cultures of the Western Bay of Plenty. Katikati Festival of Cultures was a vibrant celebration of diverse cultural backgrounds and included a flag parade featuring multiple nationalities followed by an afternoon of food and entertainment at Moore Park last weekend. Committee member Kylie Watkins said it was an amazing day with plenty of love and hugs shared.

Skater boys and girls may be sliding along a mountainous backdrop chasing cheese balls when Katikati Skate Park gets its makeover. Avocados, skateboards, dragons and the cheesy treats are among the ideas to adorn Moore Park’s skatepark when street artist Kalib Wallace starts on its transformation. Children were brought into the design process by Katikati Open Air Art (KOAA) during the last weekend of March.

A hunting and fishing competition just for children will take place next weekend. Scott and Sarah Adamson from Aongatete and a few of their friends love hunting, and their kids do too. They’ve decided to start a hunting event for young ones. “We just wanted to have some competition amongst friends and then thought we might get the community involved as well and it all just fell into place. Our kids love outdoors and we all enjoy seeing them light up,” said Sarah.

A new initiative in Katikati is focused on boosting businesses and expanding the job market. The Focus Katikati Trust aims to grow businesses and job numbers by creating sector clusters to attract and retain people in the region. A meeting was held last month to discuss the new trust and introduce the project. The trust invitedCluster Navigators chief executive and founder Ifor Ffowcs-Williams to talk about the benefit of cluster developments.
