On Friday, May 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., members of the Itasca Friendship Club, along with their families, friends, volunteers, and community members, all came together for dinner and dancing. The Bowties & Tiaras Prom was held at the CoHaus in Grand Rapids, Mn. With over 120 reservations, it was a full-house filled with music, laughter, conversations, and community.

Eagle Ridge Golf Course is open again for the season, and this time, it’s open with a new leader: Luke Sheetz. After 29 years, Gordy Skaar has retired and has passed on the reins to Luke Sheetz. Sheetz said he is excited and “ready” to take on the course that has seen continued growth over the past few years. Sheetz started working at Eagle Ridge in 2008. On Thursday, May 8 at 1 p.m., almost one hundred community members gathered at Grace House to celebrate the “Re-opening” of the emergency homeless shelter. Its expansion has doubled its number of beds and has grown the ability to help more people in the community. Now with 16 rooms and 20 beds, each with private restrooms and showers, they have more beds than ever.

Atlantis Pool-Spas-Saunas has been locally run and operated out of Grand Rapids for many years. Even with a change of ownership, it still remains in the family. Bill Randolph, originally from the San Fernando Valley in California, was on his way to Alaska to work on the pipeline when he stopped amd thought, “You know what, it’s cold up here.” And so he stayed in Grand Rapids. He called his family and said that Rapids was as far north as he was going.

Last Friday, April 11, the MacRostie Art Center held an opening reception for its newest exhibition, Expressions, which features mixed media artwork by youth in the residential treatment programs of North Homes Children and Family Services.
