WEST MICHIGAN — The Great Lakes, and Michigan specifically, are squarely in a SLIGHT RISK for severe weather the evening of Friday, April 18. A 2 out of 5 represents the highest likelihood for severe storms within this event, but still lacking some variables to have high confidence in the event development. For this wave of storms, the variable that may limit storms strength, or development as a whole, is what's known as the 'cap'.

WEST MICHIGAN — As the snow coated and salty roads are a thing of the past, West Michigan now turns to mud, dust, and pollen in the air as Spring is in full swing. Pollen and dust are pesky, and quite visible, on cars. It's no surprise car washes see a seasonal spike to polish and scrub vehicles. "A good day in April is about like 1200 to 1300 cars." GRAND RAPIDS — Frederick Meijer Gardens are the place to be in the Spring as the weather gets warmer and flowers and trees start to bud, Unfortunately, a cool stretch of weather has delayed some of the most beautiful trees is in the gardens. West Michigan has seen cooler and wetter days through the first half of April. Grand Rapids has yet to see 70 degrees in April, as of the 15Th, and only four days have reach the 60 degree mark.

WEST MICHIGAN — The Grand Rapids National Weather Service has been busy since a line of storms whipped across the state on Sunday, March 30th. The Weather Service has been reviewing reported damage and completing surveys to confirm any possible tornado, and the latest one is in Kent County. Just east of Murray Lake, north of Lowell, was a 2.5 mile long EF-0 tornado spanning 300 yards wide, the largest of the three reported in Kent County from this event.

From March 28 to April 5, Grand Rapids measured 3.11" of rain. Kalamazoo, in that same stretch, had over 5 inches of rain! This has spiked water levels across many rivers and streams. While the visuals of high waters, minor overflow of some ponds, and fast flowing river water in Grand Rapids is concerning, there is not as much need to panic this year compared to last. Below is a look at the grand River levels downtown and in Comstock Park as of Monday morning.
