The Madison Abundant Life boys basketball team is going to the state tournament. Jonah Koon scored 24 points as the Challengers beat Salam 63-53 in a WIAA Division 5 sectional final Saturday at Evansville. Jacob Koon scored 14 points for the Challengers, who led 27-24 at halftime. They finished with five 3-point field goals. Ahmad Badwan scored 21 points to lead Salam, which connected just one time from 3-point range. Ismael Bektesi and Yusef Bektesi scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

History was not on the side of the University of Wisconsin women's basketball team entering Thursday night's Big Ten Conference game. Having never beaten Maryland previously, Wisconsin was unable to reverse the trend during a 79-63 loss in College Park, Maryland. The Badgers (13-14, 6-11 Big Ten) fell behind 39-19 at halftime.

Sophomore Sam Wolf won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 freestyle in leading the Middleton boys swimming and diving team to the WIAA Division 1 sectional title on Saturday at Madison West. Top-ranked Middleton swept the three relay titles and finished with 372 points. Fifth-ranked Madison Memorial was second with 329, followed by Verona (285) and Madison West (273). Wolf swam the 200 IM in 1 minute, 50.47 seconds and the 100 free in 45.51 seconds.

Madison Memorial senior forward Sam Mickelson scored 21 points to lead five players in double figures during a 74-62 victory over Madison La Follette in a Big Eight Conference boys basketball game Friday night. Sophomore Caleb Liggon and junior Abe Dykstra each scored 12 points, junior Ian Wischoff had 11 points and sophomore JoJo Rodriguez 10 for host Memorial, which led 39-23 at the half. Sophomore Thian Riak led the Lancers with 22 points.
