A Carbondale staple turned 50 on Monday. The Village Smithy celebrated thousands of employees and millions of meals served over the last five decades during a Cinco de Mayo celebration that welcomed hundreds of locals to the restaurant. The restaurant has weathered the COVID-19 pandemic, never ending maintenance issues on the over 120 year old building and, as co-owner Jared Ettelson calls it, the great egg crisis of 2025.

The town of Snowmass Village has several new art installations around town, including over a dozen photos from local artists displayed at bus stops, the transit center, the Snowmass Mall and the Snowmass Town Center. Gray Warr, a Snowmass Arts Advisory board member, said that while the photos are meant to make these areas “prettier,” they also showcase the best parts of town. “Photographs of landscapes, sunsets, moon rises, of bucking Broncos, of skiers,” he said.

A couple hundred people protested at Sayre Park in Glenwood Springs Thursday for May Day National Day of Action. The movement draws inspiration from labor and community movements of the past and is dedicated to fighting for the needs of working families and their neighborhoods. As American families face cuts across public programs and immigrants are targeted during President Donald Trump's first 100 days in office, local organization Mountain Action Indivisible organized the protest.

Jonathan Godes is now the director of the I-70 Coalition, following his eight year tenure as both the Glenwood Springs mayor and a city council member. His last day on council was April 17, and he has been in his new role for 19 days. But it’s not his first time working with the organization. Over the past three years, Godes was city council’s liaison for the I-70 Coalition. Godes is replacing Margaret Bowes, who was with the coalition for 17 years. She announced she was stepping down in March.
