Last weekend, I went to the Las Vegas Grand Prix, not knowing what to expect. Seeing as this is only the second year Sin City hosted the race, I was expecting it to be a little rocky, especially with the struggles the city faced in 2023. Not to mention the controversy surrounding United States races like Las Vegas and Miami, which have been criticized for prioritizing spectacle over racing.

At the beginning of this season, I never would’ve thought that McLaren’s Lando Norris had a strong shot at winning the Formula One World Championship. But as the season progressed, he got his maiden win and started having intense battles with three-time world champion, Max Verstappen. Norris has shown consistent results, winning three races this season and proving he can go toe-to-toe with Verstappen. His performance this season is something we hadn’t quite seen from him in previous seasons.

When I was 10, my club swim team took a field trip to see “McFarland, USA” (2015) — a movie about a coach who transforms a struggling high school cross country team into champions. My coach was adamant about the entire team watching it together, and for a good reason. The movie conveyed the importance of teamwork, resilience and determination in the face of adversity. I left feeling so motivated and inspired to keep doing my best and showing up with my team.

I grew up in a huge soccer family (although we, of course, call it football), so it’s no surprise my spring break was spent going to matches and visiting stadiums. I attended a Los Angeles FC match and an Arsenal F.C. match and toured Stamford Bridge and London Stadium. The level of passion I witnessed from the fans throughout these experiences was truly insane and left me with a greater appreciation for the widespread love of soccer.
