These are my notepads, 2004-2014. It’s a stretch of life that crosses over high school, college, and deep into my mid-twenties. It’s also a meaty chunk of my book, those ten-eleven years, a book that will come out in 2026. Next year, but if I turn it in, in May. In like six weeks, no later than eight. But I’m on track. I needed to consume art as I tried to make art. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings was one. The Alice Coltrane show at The Hammer was another, as was Court of Gold.
