Listen to your body is a truism, but sometimes it’s all we can do. For years, I ate oatmeal every weekday morning. I wrote, in 2022, how returning to an oatmeal routine for breakfast was how I was able to finish my first book. I thought, from then on, that I’d be eating oatmeal every day for the rest of my life. I figured I might as well tattoo a rolled oat on my knuckle, next to the martini: my staples. My angel and my devil. Then, in the middle of last year, I stopped wanting the oats.
