Photo by Matthew Stockman/Getty Images Last weekend when the AL East-leading New York Yankees (then 30-19) visited Coors Field to play the historically bad Colorado Rockies (then 8-42), a sweep seemed inevitable. Reality hit on Friday night when RHP Tanner Gordon led the Rockies to a surprising 3-2 win. The next day, however, Max Fried would set things right as he dazzled over 7 ⅓ innings, striking out seven and giving up six hits that would result in only one run.

Given that it was a cold evening in Chicago with the wind blowing in from Lake Michigan, a low-scoring affair seemed in the cards for Game 2 of the Colorado Rockies-Chicago Cubs series. When the game ended in extras, the Cubs had walked off the Rockies in extras, 4-3 The first two innings saw a pitchers’ duel with Márquez and Horton working quickly and retiring batters with relative ease. Today, in the second game of a three-game series, the Colorado Rockies (9-45) will face the Chicago Cubs (33-21). The Rockies dropped the first game to the Cubs, 3-1. With that loss, Colorado has lost seven in a row at Wrigley Field. Tonight, however, they will look to even the series and break their losing streak. It’s worth noting this is the Rockies’ longest roadtrip of the season. In addition, The Rockies’ 9-45 record is the worst in the Modern Era (since 1901) through 54 games.

Daniel Álvarez-Monte’s is reporting that the Colorado Rockies and Orlando Arcia are close to signing a contract. The Colorado Rockies and former All-Star SS Orlando Arcia are finalizing a free agent contract, sources tell @ElExtrabase . Arcia, 30, was released by the Atlanta Braves after being DFA’d. Once finalized, Arcia can join the team for their road series in Chicago.
