    SIOUX CENTER—A new dentist in town is excited to serve the community in the same way as her father. Dr. Catalina Uribe Schmit, 25, started July 15 as the second of two dentists now serving Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center. She’s the daughter of Dr. Juan Uribe of Le Mars, owner of Uribe Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Sioux Center. “I love getting to work in the same town as my dad,” she said.

    SIOUX CENTER—About 40 people gathered to listen and ask questions of U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) during his town hall meeting for Sioux County, held Aug. 20 at the Sioux Center Public Library. Grassley was first elected to the Senate in 1980 and has been reelected seven times. His Sioux Center stop was one of three that day to wrap up his 44th year having town hall meetings in every Iowa county.

    IRETON—The Ireton City Council at its Monday meeting approved two fees for the city’s work locating burial plots in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Going forward there will be a $100 charge for maintenance supervisor Jordan Richardson to complete the task during regular business hours Monday-Friday. There will be a $200 charge if the request is for the work to be done in an evening or during the weekend.

    SIOUX CENTER—Being born in North Dakota and raised in South Dakota and Colorado, moving back to the Midwest feels like coming home for Sioux Center Christian School’s new head of school. Paul Brenner, 55, was also the second generation of his family to attend the University of Sioux Falls, where he met his wife, Kim. “You could say there’s a big pull for us to the Midwest, but that being said, we weren’t really looking for a new position or a move, that was God’s doing,” Brenner said.

    SIOUX CENTER—Sioux County’s first private classical school is launching a one-day hybrid program this fall, pushing back its opening date as a full school until August 2025. The Classical Academy of Sioux Center will be offering its program on Tuesdays, September-May, at the former Spalding Catholic School building, 908 Sixth Ave., Alton.
