The Equatorial Classic Rallying motorsport will kick off on May 1 this year in Taita Taveta County. According to the management of the giant Teita Sisal Estate, who are the main organisers and sponsors of the three-day event, the rally will cover a total of 994 kilometres in local ranches and conservancies in Taita, Voi and Mwatate sub-counties. The organisers said yesterday that out of the total kilometres to be covered, 90 per cent will be in local ranches and conservancies.

Taita Taveta County Government Public Health Officer was on Tuesday found dead in his house in Taita Hills. Police said the body of the officer attached to Nyache Dispensary in Taita Sub County was found by his colleagues on the bed. Taita Sub County Police Commander Onesmus Kombe confirmed and said the deceased body was taken to Wesu Sub County Hospital mortuary. The police commander said the deceased did not report to duty in the morning, prompting his colleagues to look for him.

The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) has stopped supplying drugs to the Taita-Taveta County government due to a debt of Sh57.4 million. Dozens of students of Dr Aggrey Boys High School in Taita Taveta County have been grilled by the police over last month's fire that destroyed property worth millions of shillings in the school.
