    The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is drafting new guidelines for tradesmen working with engineered stone after report shows increased risk to silicosis. HSE is asking for industry feedback from the Worktop Fabricators Federation – an association promoting good working practices for worktop fabrication and stone masonry industries – who were presented with draft guidelines to review.

    A fire broke out in a 15-storey apartment block in Plaistow yesterday (21 October). London Fire Brigade (LFB) said that the fire was caused by the failure of a lithium-ion battery and believe it was started accidently. The blaze was controlled an hour after the first call was received as 70 firefighters attended the scene. Residents were evacuated as the fire spread from a three-bedroom apartment on the tenth floor.

    HSE investigate the fire in East London including duties under the Building Safety Act. An entire block of flats was affected by the fire in Dagenham, including scaffolding around the building and its roof as 225 firefighters tackled the blaze on 26 August. Remediation work was in process to remove unsafe cladding from the residential block. In a statement, the regulator said their primary considerations for the investigation will be how the cladding remediation works were organised and undertaken.
