Brett James said April 11 that he submitted his resignation upon request by a representative from Mayor Donna Deegan. He said the administration had a “desire to go a different direction with the planning department.” In a telephone interview, James said Deegan’s office gave him no further details behind the reason for seeking his resignation.

    The new owner of the Regency Square Mall has not requested financial incentives from the city of Jacksonville to help finance a plan to redevelop the 58-year-old property, the city said. “Currently, the City of Jacksonville is not planning to provide any incentives for this project,” the city stated April 10 in email from Chief Communications Officer Phil Perry.

    Plans to build onto both ends of the Gates of Riverside building in Brooklyn took a step forward April 10 when the Downtown Development Review Board granted conceptual approval of designs for the project on a 7-0 vote. The two additions to the structure at 245 Riverside Ave., formerly the St. Joe Co. headquarters, would house a restaurant on the St. Johns River side and retail establishments, offices and potentially restaurants on the Riverside Avenue side.

    As the Jacksonville Transportation Authority prepares to launch its autonomous Ultimate Urban Circulator system, the City Council member whose district includes Downtown is seeking details from the JTA about the project’s cost. During an April 10 meeting of the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization board, Council member Jimmy Peluso asked for such information as estimates of daily ridership and the cost per trip for the system.
