As a teenage vaquero in Coahuila, Mexico, Ramon Escobar looked north to the United States for better opportunities.

Curated by Dolores Garcia, the exhibit reintroduced me to the Dominican artist Scherezade Garcia of UT Austin and introduced me to several other Latina artists from the Texas Capital City whose artwork was new to me.

A Spring 2025 Artpace Opening Reception & Artist Talk for the International Artists-in-Residence exhibition introduced San Antonio art lovers to Laura Veles Drey, Anita Fields, and Lorena Molina. Having followed the news last week of the US government’s role in deporting 200 Venezuelans to El Salvador where they were imprisoned in one of Central America’s most deplorable jails, I took special notice of the comments of Salvadoran artist Lorena Molina.

The story “After an Orchestra’s Rebirth, The Focus Turns to Thriving,”concluded with an optimistic observation from music director Jeffrey Kahane thatSan Antonio’s Philharmonic reorganization and new home in the Scottish Rite Hall will contribute to the “rebirth” of first-rate music performances in San Antonio.
