Boerne now has an official city flag, a step intended to inspire civic pride and help strengthen the Hill Country city's identity, a city official says. The flag features Boerne's official logo - a symbolic representation of a live oak tree sprouting from a prominent "B" - on a white background. Curved navy bands below the logo represent the rolling terrain of the Hill Country, according to city spokesperson Chris Shadrock, who said he suggested adopting a flag.

Border authorities say they seized close to $9 million in methamphetamine at the Mexican border, hidden inside a shipment of vegetables. Just over 1,000 pounds of alleged methamphetamine packages were seized on April 13 at the Pharr International Bridge near McAllen, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The 3,770 packages were inside a shipment of chayote being carried inside a tractor trailer, the release said. Chayote is a green squash shaped like a pear.

Preparing for the upcoming severe weather season will be a bit cheaper next weekend, according to state officials, as many emergency preparation supplies will be tax free. Batteries, generators and many other severe weather supplies will not be subject to sales tax from April 26 to 28, according to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. There are no limits on the amount of the tax-free items you can buy, the comptroller's office said.

Want lower property taxes? The city of San Antonio is here to help. Property tax workshops offered through a collaboration between the city's Neighborhood and Housing Services Department and Texas True Tax will "help homeowners learn about exemptions and steps to submit an appeal to lower property taxes," according to a city news release. Each session will start with a presentation by Texas True Tax, a San Antonio-based firm that focuses on protesting taxes.
