This all came from a storm system that traveled across Lake Michigan from Wisconsin.

    Severe storms are heading to Metro Detroit, heading across Lake Michigan from Wisconsin. The Metro Detroit area has a mild chance of strong storms between 11 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday. Timeline: At around 9:30 p.m., the National Weather Service declared a tornado watch for Mid and West Michigan counties, with severe thunderstorm warnings being issued in the Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Ludington areas. At 11:40, a tornado watch was declared for all of Southeast Michigan.

    As temperatures remain below zero, with the wind making it even colder, hundreds of schools are closed. The Wednesday closures started pouring in on Monday, with many districts electing to cancel classes both Tuesday and Wednesday due to the forecasted blast of cold that won't subside until later this week. The cold weather advisory remains in effect until noon Wednesday with wind chills as low as -20. Expect some light snow showers late Wednesday night into Thursday.
