The software security team at Apple is one of the hardest working there is, unfortunately this means a lot of reports go unseen and security issues get left in previous versions. The right thing to do (what they tell you) is to keep your software updated whenever you can but this isn’t always going to give you a solution. If you’re stuck on an update for a while there’s a chance your issue may never even be seen.
