Donald Trump said on Sunday that President Bashar al-Assad had left Syria, using the unfolding events in the Middle East to reiterate his calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine. “Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place,” the US president-elect wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
