The police have been allowed to detain for one month a suspected hitman in the execution of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, as they piece together evidence into the killing. Evidence tabled in court stated that Mr Isaac Kuria Chege alias Kush was arrested at Isebania, at the border of Kenya and Tanzania, while attempting to flee the country. The MP was shot on April 30 near City Mortuary roundabout after being trailed by his assailants from the city centre.

A demonstrator who was with activist Rex Masai during last year’s Gen-Z anti-government protests has told a Nairobi court that police killed him. Mr Fredrick Otieno told Milimani law courts senior principal magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo that he did not witness goons or gangs participating in the June 25, 2024 demos opposing the 2024/2025 Financial Bill.

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Court Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi declined a plea by police to detain Aroko for 30 days and only allowed detectives to keep him for seven days.

Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu suffered another major blow after the High Court rejected his second bail application pending the hearing and determination of his appeal against a 12-year jail term. Justice Lucy Njuguna said the renewed bail application lacked merit and dismissed it. However, Justice Njuguna allowed Waititu and his two fellow serving prisoners, Charles Chege and Lucas Wahinya, to challenge her ruling at the Court of Appeal.
