Trump has settled a legal claim with the ABC News Network, where they have agreed to pay $15 million in compensation because they said he was a rapist, and he denied it, even though there is court documentation that suggests he might be.

GB News has reported comments made by Nigel Farage on how Elon Musk might take on the task of reforming government in the USA, and on how such ideas might be replicated in this country. They reported him saying:This is the sexy bit: Elon comes in and takes a knife to the deep state. Just like when he bought Twitter he sacked 80% of the staff. There are going to be mass lay-offs, whole departments closing and I’m hoping and praying that’s the blueprint for what we then do on our side of the pond.

Richard Murphy of Pinsent Masons was commenting after the Irish government published finalised terms and conditions for the Tonn Nua project auction under its Offshore Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (ORESS). The Tonn Nua project is a 900 MW offshore wind farm that is envisaged under Ireland’s south coast ‘designated maritime area plan’ (DMAP). The DMAP specifies a geographical area within which new fixed offshore renewable energy projects could be developed in a sustainable way.

Modern monetary theory (MMT) says that conventional economics is wrong about the power of financial markets. Our government has much more power to pay for the services we need than we are told. This is because any government with its own internationally accepted sovereign currency, and its own central bank, can never be dependent upon the financial markets for money. It can always ask its own central bank to create new currency to enable government spending to take place.

It seems that many small-minded managers believe that they have lost control of their workforces because some aren’t in sight for every working hour, and are moving in the same direction. Covid showed what was possible when staff worked at home, but now they are undermining those gains.

The’ tax gap’ is the difference between the money that HM Revenue and Customs should collect in the UK each year and the money that it actually collects. The difference is mostly tax cheats. Since 2008, the Revenue has published annual tax gap estimates, which, to their credit, is better than any other tax authority in the world. But there is a problem with their tax gap estimates. They’re crap. That is Completely Rubbish APproximations to the truth.

Rachel Reeves likes to say that she learned economics at her mother’s kitchen table, where she watched her ticking off the entries in the bank account to make sure that every penny had been accounted for, which is fine, but that is not the job of a Chancellor of the Exchequer. And nor is it the job of a Chancellor of the Exchequer to run a government like a household, because a government can create its own money and a household can’t. They are fundamentally different.
