2 1/1 THIS month I am sharing with you a strawberry baked cheesecake made with soft goat’s cheese and goat’s yoghurt for a refreshing change from the norm. Delicious, rich and refreshing, it’s the perfect accompaniment for a summer barbecue or get-together. The basil and balsamic syrup really add some depth the cheesecake too, bringing out the taste of the tasty, fresh strawberries perfectly.

THIS SUMMER has been pretty warm so far and so I have been enjoying eating dinner outside with my family at our new house quite a lot! The summer weather always makes me cook and bake less, probably because the oven heats the whole house up, but I still like to bake occasionally to have cake with tea or to be enjoyed after a meal! Last Sunday after a meal out at one of our favourite restaurants Jake and I shared a Peach Melba dessert, something new to me, and I really enjoyed it.

WITH VALENTINE’S Day fast approaching, I wanted to create a cake recipe that was lovely but not so obviously ‘love themed’. This Bramley Apple, lemon curd and elderflower cordial cake is pretty and romantic though, so it’s the perfect cake to make the ‘apple of your eye’ for February 14. I really like the term, so decided it was the perfect name for the cake, originally meaning the central aperture of the eye. Figuratively it is something, or more usually someone, cherished above others.

2 1/1 SUSIE Dent, the presenter of Dictionary Corner on TV quiz show Countdown, produced what she said was an interesting word. That was “fracture” – and she gave the meaning to be the way paint is handled in art. Tactile and textured styles need to show thick directional angles, yet some people decree that brushstrokes should not be visible. Perspective is another interesting word. This is a method of lines which meet at the viewing point.
