GORDON, Texas — There’s a certain quiet still hanging over the town of Gordon. Damage from a tornado that ripped through more than two weeks ago still lingers. “They’ve been through a lot these last couple of weeks,” said Gordon resident Lauren Jackson. More than 30 homes were damaged. The storm tore through parts of the high school, including its athletic facilities. But in the middle of the rubble, there’s still a team to cheer for.

MEAD, Okla. — Lake Texoma is a go-to spot for many around the Memorial Day holiday and summer break. But for Paul Casperson, owner of the Willow Springs Marina & Resort, business hasn’t been booming so far this season. “Normally we have hundreds of people in here every day… and now, we have nobody,” he said. Casperson said water levels remain high after weeks of rain and damaging winds. Casperson said the lake is still nearly eight feet higher than normal after receding slightly from its peak.

But nothing could’ve prepared him for what he found bobbing in the middle of the lake. “It’s not a fish, but it’s something,” Olguin can be heard saying in a video, recording the moment he rescued a baby deer.

MCKINNEY, Texas — Just a short walk from McKinney’s busy streets lies a place where time seems to stand still, until Mother Nature made an unexpected visit. Early Monday morning, strong winds swept through the Chestnut Square Historic Village, a cherished site preserving some of the city’s oldest homes. “It was a disaster, really. It looked like a tornado moved through,” said Annie Quinn, who is the manager of the museum. Powerful gusts twisted trees and sent branches crashing down.
