The Olympics traditionally have given women’s sports such as gymnastics, figure skating, track and field, and swimming far more audience access and attention than is typical outside of the “flame to flame” Olympic focus -- those other three years and 50 weeks of the quadrennial sports calendar. The rest of the time? Too often, no noticeable “flame” at all. Traditional sports coverage has always been spotty and far from sustaining for some of the world’s best athletes who also happen to be women.
