    At the same meeting, the board honored their two teachers of the year. The Teacher of the Year for the elementary level is Lin Springer from Santa Rita Elementary and the Teacher of the Year for the secondary level is Jennie Sanders from Glenn Middle School. The teachers will go into statewide contest for Texas’ Teacher of the Year competition.

    A local church, Central Faith Baptist Church, had its roof destroyed due to storm damage on Tuesday night. The church is located at 2470 Jomar. The church’s pastor of 21 years, Gerald Clark, says the church’s fellowship area’s roof portion had ripped off, causing rain to leak in and causing the ceilings to cave in. Unfortunately, due to the storms about 7 years ago, the church’s insurance provider dropped providing insurance to churches and the church hasn’t been able to find coverage since.

    A group of Catholic pilgrims walked through Downtown San Angelo on Sunday, June 8, as part of a national journey celebrating Pentecost and the Eucharist—the belief in the presence of Jesus in communion. The pilgrimage began in May in Indianapolis and will end in Los Angeles, with stops across West Texas including Fort Stockton and El Paso. Pilgrims say the experience is about healing, faith, and unity, even under the hot Texas sun.

    David Earl Rogers, a Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitive, was arrested in Converse on April 28. The 56-year-old had been on the run since December 2024, wanted for aggravated assault, assaulting a family member, and interfering with emergency assistance. He was found at a home by the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force after a lengthy investigation. Rogers has a history of multiple criminal charges in Bexar County, including assault and drug offenses.
