A nice start to the day Saturday, with temperatures climbing through the morning into the upper 50s. A weak front drops into the region around lunch and cools us down into the low 50s by the late afternoon. Some passing clouds and maybe a stray shower are expected; otherwise, the day (and weekend) looks dry. Brighter conditions arrive on Sunday, with lows in the 30s and highs in the low to mid-50s. Next week looks pretty nice, but some showers are possible on Monday.

Highs will be in the mid and upper 60s to near 70 on Saturday (cooler on the Eastern Shore) with plenty of sun. Some late-day clouds roll in with an abrupt wind shift around sunset. A shower or two could also pop up. The combination of some breezy SW winds (that’s why it’s warm) and the dry air/low humidity and dry ground will increase the fire danger today. Red Flag Warnings (a forest service alert used to warn of wildfire danger)is in place. Outside burning is discouraged today.

A midday wind shift will take the morning 60s and drop them into the 40s by late afternoon. This 20-25 mph wind will make things a little breezy through the afternoon. For tonight, we’ll see increasing clouds as another weak system slides by. This could bring us a few showers Monday morning. The best chances for this will be across NE NC and southside. A few showers likely linger in the southern OBX through the morning.

After several days of chilly temperatures, Sunday looks to be a little warmer, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s region wide. Expect partly sunny skies and a touch of SW wind Sunday. Temperatures will cool down in the low 30s to upper 20s inland again overnight. We’ll start off the week on Monday with another decent day of temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. A few showers will be possible, mainly in NE NC as a weak system slides through.

Sunday features an actual warm up, with temperatures near 60. This comes ahead of an approaching storm system that brings us rain chances for the start and middle part of this week. Rain showers will be possible Monday, especially in the morning. These should be light overall, but just enough to make you need the windshield wipers or rain gear as you head off to work. Showers should come to an end Monday afternoon.
