Between severe storms and major river flooding the state of Missouri saw an active month of June in 2008. During the morning and afternoon hours of June 15 a large MCS or Mesoscale Convective System developed across portions of Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas before moving into Missouri. The system produced a total of 64 severe storm reports in the state of Missouri. 31 of those reports were due to large hail while the other 33 were due to damaging winds.

Set your alarms with a PM rather than an AM as the Strawberry Moon will be visible over Mid-Missouri. The first full moon of the summer gets its name from history rather than a change in color, though it could look red due to wildfire smoke and the way light reflects off of it. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac the Strawberry Moon name originates from the Algonquin tribes and it refers to the time of year when fresh berries are harvested.

If you have a garden or just a green thumb, you'll want to protect your plants Monday night. A Freeze Warning will be in effect from midnight to 9 AM Tuesday across mid-Missouri. Temperatures below 32 degrees are expected area-wide, with the greatest impacts in areas away from major river valleys and metropolitan areas where a hard freeze (temperatures below 28 degrees) is forecast. To protect your plants and garden, you can cover them with frost blankets, sheets, or cold frames.
