All it took, in fact, was one swing with two outs in the sixth inning on Thursday afternoon. With The Cru facing Hardin-Simmons in an ASC Tournament opening-round matchup, HSU’s Lindsey Ratcliffe pulled a 1-0 pitch from UMHB’s Eileigh Whyte to deep left field.

BELTON — A familiar face is returning to help lead the UMHB women’s basketball program. On Wednesday, the athletics department announced that Lauren Baker, an All-ASC honoree for the program in 2023-24, has rejoined head coach Katie Novak-Lenoir’s program as UMHB’S assistant coach. She comes back to Belton after playing professionally in Morocco this past winter.

Winning at Dee Dillon Field has been near impossible for visiting opponents this season, as The Cru has taken the mentality of defending its home turf to another level, going 17-2 in Belton.

In an ASC Tournament quarterfinal between the second-seeded Yellowjackets and No. 3 UMHB, the breaks went LeTourneau’s way from the start. Hard-hit groundballs went for doubles down the line or deep into the 5-6 hole at shortstop for infield singles. Flyballs carried over the outfield wall at ETBU’s Woods Field for homers.
