Isolated, strong thunderstorms will be possible in our neighborhoods again Sunday afternoon. The showers and storms will start to pop up along the sea breeze near Interstate 75 around lunchtime. Inland areas east of Interstate 75 can expect the strongest storms, which will develop mainly between 2 and 5 p.m.The strongest storms will likely form along and to the east of the Interstate 75 corridor. In the places where they form, frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds will be the main impacts.

Fort Myers warmed to 96 degrees on Friday afternoon, tying the record high temperature for May 23. The last time the city was this warm on today's date was 72 years ago in 1953. Punta Gorda was even hotter on Friday, reaching 97 degrees. That temperature reading is a degree shy of the May 23 record high of 98 degrees set in 2024. High temperature averages during the last part of May in Fort Myers are at 90 degrees.
