    SpringFest, once the largest celebration of modern Mopars in the country, has triumphantly returned after a six-year hiatus. Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the show, which had lured the Mopar faithful from all over the U.S. and Canada down to Orange County, California, every March, was called off mere days before its 15thinstallment was due to be held in April of 2020. For those who aren’t familiar, SpringFest began in 2004 as a celebration of the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum.

    When it comes to rare muscle cars, the Buick GS 455 Stage 1 convertible is right at the top of the list as far as performance and rarity is concerned. In the Golden Age of the Detroit super car, the preponderance of performance vehicles came from Dodge, Plymouth, Ford, Chevy, and Pontiac. Because of this, some of the coolest rare muscle cars came from the fringe brands.

    If you ask most automobile enthusiasts what the first, true muscle car was, chances are the majority will respond swiftly and authoritatively with three simple letters: G, T, and O. While there were a few examples of sedate, mid-sized cars which had hot motors  in them that predated the Goat, none hit the exact formula that came to define the term “muscle car” like the GTO did.

    Hemi. The very word conjures images of raw power, speed, and noise. So named for its hemispherical-shaped combustion chambers that allowed for the detonation of a larger fuel/air mixture, the Hemi engine transformed any run-of-the-mill Dodge, Plymouth, or Chrysler vehicle into the most feared competitor at the drag strip or stoplight in the 1960s and early ‘70s.
