Knights region's best for first time since 2008

Stratford High School’s baseball team is the best in its region for the first time in 17 years. The Knights knocked off visiting Berkeley High School, 9-4, Wednesday, April 23, to take another series win and clinch region supremacy. Stratford improved to 11-0 against Region 7-5A foes this spring and the win was the 14th in the last 15 games. “It’s emotional for me to see how hard they’ve worked to get to this point,” Stratford coach Tony Osterman said. “I’m just real happy for our team.

Berkeley High School’s softball team is on an impressive winning streak as the season veers into the home stretch, and there hasn’t been much resistance offered up along the way. That changed a little bit Monday, April 21, with a doubleheader against Upstate visitor Clover. Coach Kelley Dillon’s club needed some late-inning theatrics to extend its win streak to 12 games.

One of the best to ever lace them up and put on the football pads at Stratford High School, former Knights standout running back Mario Anderson gave more back to the program Saturday, April 19, on Ray Stackley Field. Approximately 40 players aged 8 to 16 signed up to compete and have fun during the inaugural Mario Anderson youth football camp on a picture perfect spring day. A DJ spun tunes to pump some energy into W.L. Bonds Stadium and the smell of a nearby grill migrated over to the field.

South Carolina Stingrays head coach and director of hockey operations Jared Nightingale was chosen as the ECHL Coach of the Year for guiding the Stingrays to a 52-15-5 record and 109 points during the regular season. The 2024-25 Stingrays set franchise single-season records with 109 points and 52 wins, finishing with the ECHL’s best regular season record. South Carolina led the ECHL in several statistical categories, including penalty kill success rate (86.3).
Stratford standout Davis makes college choice

The youngest son in a household of athletes, Stratford High School junior Jachin Davis had role models to learn from and hone his skills against while growing up. Oldest brother J.D. Davis played baseball at The Citadel and Nicholls State and is an assistant baseball coach at Eastern Kentucky, while middle brother Josh Davis signed to play baseball at Clemson. Parents Jon and Lynette were athletes at Catawba College. Jachin will get to create memorable moments in college, too.

Stratford High School's baseball program has been unable to reel in a region crown in 17 years. The Knights are well on their way to ending that drought this spring, though. Their latest performance was a dominant one, winning in four and a half innings. Outfielder JQ Crosby and third baseman Jameson Lee drove in three runs apiece and pitcher Jarrett Wagner was in complete control from the bump in the Knights’ 11-0 win over visiting Cane Bay Wednesday, April 9, in a Region 7-5A baseball game.
Diamond Hawks 'finding their way'

In less than a month, the most important portion of the season arrives for high school baseball teams. Region championships will be decided and teams vie for the big trophy in May. Hanahan High School’s diamond Hawks seem to be hitting their stride and have a shot at the Region 6-3A crown. “We’re finding our way,” second-year coach Skylar Hunter said. “I knew how young we were going into the season. I knew the schedule early on was a gauntlet. It’s paying off for us. We’re playing our best baseball.
