It was a tough week for Marion-area high school baseball and softball teams. The only squad still playing this postseason is Highland in baseball. CALEDONIA — Different division. Different venue. Same results. GRANVILLE — Michael Richmond is still tweaking his approach when it comes to running the 800 meters. Nevertheless, the Ridgedale sophomore managed a personal best and a Division III district runner-up finish at Granville when he clocked a 1 minute, 58.71 seconds on May 23. "I felt iffy at the beginning. I’m not going to lie. I felt like I went out way too hard," he said. "I came across the line and that guy was in front of me so I’m going to just try to stay with him.

GRANVILLE — Layla Castle surprised herself. The Northmor junior, who is a relay specialist, is a relative newcomer to the open 800-meter run, winning the event for the first time last week at the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference championship. Now she's a district champ in the discipline, too. "I wasn’t even supposed to be in the open 800," she said.
